DBS checks are particularly important to organisations who are hiring people within the following sectors: financial services, education, healthcare, government, security, charities, law and accountancy. However, only certain roles are eligible for a DBS check - please therefore see the DBS Guide to Eligibility for further information if necessary.   

To qualify for an Enhanced DBS check, the position must meet one of the criteria set out in The Police Act 1997 (Criminal Records) Regulations. These positions are known as 'prescribed positions' and reflect the statutory requirements from other organisations. For example, Persons who work in regulated activity with children or vulnerable adults work in a prescribed position.
